2017 Mayor’s Urban Design Awards

Entuitive swept up several awards at the 2017 Mayor’s Urban Design Awards. The winners were announced at the gala event, held on November 15, 2017 at Studio Bell – National Music Centre.

Every two years, the City of Calgary acknowledges the important contributions of designers, architects and artists that help improve the quality of life in Calgary through art and design. Ninety submissions were judged in twelve categories that showcase some of the most innovative buildings and public spaces in Calgary.

CATEGORY: GREAT CITY, GREAT DESIGN
This category is for building and infrastructure designs, urban design plans, landscape designs, planning studies, and individual site elements which contribute to the improvement of the quality of life in Calgary.

CATEGORY: CONCEPTUAL OR THEORETICAL URBAN DESIGN PROJECTS
This category is for a plan or a study within Calgary that provides a strategy for urban transformation that has no official construction status.

  • FOURTH STREET UNDERPASS ENHANCEMENT – WINNER

CATEGORY: URBAN ARCHITECTURE
This category is for a building or group of buildings that contribute to an urban design initiative.

CATEGORY: CIVIC DESIGN PROJECTS
This category is for civic improvement projects such as a park, public space or civil engineering infrastructure which have been implemented as the result of an urban design plan or initiative.

CATEGORY: THE MAWSON URBAN DESIGN AWARD
This category is for an individual building or a composition of buildings that achieve urban design excellence and creativity through awareness of the Calgary context.

CATEGORY: HOUSING INNOVATION
This category is for residential design projects, constructed or approved, of any size or scale, which demonstrate innovation in the areas of neighbourhood intensification, accessibility, affordability, and “aging in place”.

CITY EDGE DEVELOMENT
This category is for plans, studies, architecture, landscape designs and site elements that respond specifically to the challenges and opportunities presented on sites located in all recently developed and newly developing areas of the city.
