Entuitive is excited to share that The Banff Gondola Upper Terminal project has been awarded two 2016 Top Projects Awards from Alberta Construction magazine

Winner – Commercial Under $50 Million
Winner – People’s Choice Award

The project brings a reimagined mountaintop experience to over 500,000 visitors annually. The complex has been transformed into a state-of-the-art terminal that is 30% larger than the previous structure, adding a theatre, cafes and restaurants along with improved washroom facilities.  A new interpretive centre heralds environmental stewardship while a rooftop deck provides a 360-degree view of six mountain ranges. The terminal also includes an outdoor climbing wall and a 150-person conference space for weddings and corporate events.

The redevelopment took place on an extraordinary construction site at the top of Sulphur Mountain. There were just two ways to move materials to the location, by helicopter or gondola. Access limitations meant strict weight and length limits needed to be incorporated into the design to achieve the vision. The project team ultimately shipped 200 cubic metres of concrete and 130 tons of steel up the mountain and brought another 312 tons of concrete, 149 tons of steel and 79 tons of debris down.

topprojects2016The Top Projects Awards are an annual feature that recognize and celebrate construction excellence in Alberta.
