Entuitive’s Building Restoration group has extensive experience with the restoration of existing heritage and protected buildings. Our structural engineering and building envelope restoration teams work together to investigate and develop details for the restoration of existing masonry, stone, concrete, wood, and structural steel elements.
Wherever possible, we reuse existing materials, and develop designs using new compatible materials to be sympathetic to the architectural character of the original building. Heritage building materials often have different mechanical and chemical properties than modern construction materials. In designing solutions, we carefully consider old and new material compatibility.
We are experts in field investigation techniques used to determine as-built conditions, including both invasive and non-invasive testing. This expertise is particularly useful for heritage building projects where original construction drawings are often unavailable.
Entuitive’s building restoration team are comfortable acting as the prime consultant leading multi-disciplinary teams for the restoration of existing buildings or acting as a sub-consultant to a Heritage Architect or Preservationist. Wherever a building is designated as heritage, we retain the services of a Heritage Architect to lead the team through the heritage approvals process, leaving our team focused on the technical aspects of the building envelope and structural restoration. Heritage Restoration often requires intensive oversight in the field, and we have a team of restoration contract administrators focused specifically on the delicate aspects of restoration of heritage buildings.
