Infrared Thermography

EXTENDING OUR PERCEPTION WITH NON-INTRUSIVE ANALYSIS

All objects radiate energy to their surroundings. Infrared thermography is a technology that allows the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to be transformed into a visible image. In this way, we can “see” emitted infrared energy and analyze patterns to identify high concentrations of heat.

Infrared camera technology has proven to be a useful diagnostic tool for reviewing existing exterior wall and roof assemblies.  Infrared thermographic images show the patterns of heat being emitted from the building’s exterior surfaces and transitions. Anomalous patterns noted may be related to issues such as discontinuous air barrier materials, areas of reduced or missing insulation, or concealed moisture trapped within assemblies. Thermal imaging is useful as a quality control measure or pre-commissioning exercise following new construction, or as an investigative tool for identifying or preventing issues with existing buildings.

Our staff includes certified Level I and II Thermographers who can perform a full building scan. We review, analyze, and document the images to highlight any anomalous locations and provide recommendations for further investigation or repairs required.
