Our Building Envelope Services team has extensive structural knowledge of façade materials and systems. The team is seamlessly integrated with the firm’s Structural Engineering practice and advanced technology platform to deliver holistic and value-driven solutions.
For Brookfield Place Calgary, a 56-storey office tower, we are delivering an envelope solution that includes unitized curtain wall with curved conical corner glass, structural glass wall systems at the crown and ground floor spaces of the building and insulated metal cladding systems.
Entuitive specializes in forensic analysis of existing buildings where air leakage and moisture ingress has led to degradation of the building envelope. We provide thoughtful envelope solutions that add value through optimizing performance of the envelope, extending the building life span and reducing overall operating costs. We also work closely with condominium corporations, property managers and building owners to provide building condition assessments to assist with asset management, repairs and retrofits.
The University of Toronto is reinvigorating and transforming the historic Knox College building to be the new home of the Daniels Faculty of Architecture Landscape and Design. While restoring the building to its 1874 appearance, a striking modern and elegant structure for the architecture school is thoughtfully integrated. Entuitive is collaborating closely with the institution, architect and contractors to ensure that the restored and new facades of the building perform at the highest standards for optimal occupant comfort.
We ensure that sound building science theory and building envelope expertise are applied to every project, large and small. Supporting our solutions, we apply computer simulations to test our ideas during design, and sophisticated field testing to verify performance during and after construction. Entuitive uses industry standard software to develop forecasts and predict how the building envelope will perform or to assist with the forensic analysis of existing exterior wall assembly.
On the Bay Adelaide Centre East project, a 47-storey commercial tower in the heart of downtown Toronto, our Building Envelope team was brought in to preserve and move three individual sections of façade from heritage buildings. The façades were moved to a location on the opposite side of the site while he brick masonry was preserved. The facades were then integrated into the new structure and protected against excessive moisture from adjacent cooling towers. Through extensive hygrothermal modelling and analysis of the conditions the heritage walls would face, we were able to recommend a dynamic buffer zone (DBZ) for the areas directly behind the heritage walls’ assemblies. The DBZ would provide the separation and protection from high levels of humidity for which the masonry was not accustom to in its prior location and extend the potential life of the wall, with a modest amount of maintenance, while increasing the performance of the building envelope.
