Structural Glass

GLASS HAS TAKEN ON A NEW ROLE AS A STRUCTURAL, LOAD-BEARING COMPONENT.

As glass is being more commonly used in building design, its use has grown beyond simple aesthetics. Architects are incorporating glass into their designs in new ways – from striking façades to organically shaped canopies to seemingly transparent bridges.

Our team has a deep understanding of glass element assembly, post-breakage behavior, analysis techniques, R&D/physical testing requirements and maintenance issues relating to the use of structural glass. Combined with our advanced modeling and analysis software, we help our clients efficiently explore a wide range of design options to help them realize their architectural vision.

When working with complex geometries, finite element analysis are completed so local stress patterns can be examined in detail. The key to successful glass structures is the design of the connections between the glass members and the interfaces between the glass and the adjacent components. The connections used can be bearing type, bolted or friction type. These all have to be carefully detailed and the manufacturers have to be aware of the importance of the attention to detail required. Through the understanding of construction details on such projects, Entuitive can assist manufacturers in achieving successful outcomes.
