Box House in Hackney, east London is constructed entirely from cross-laminated timber panels. This method of construction is very fast and has good sustainability credentials. Another advantage of the timber panels is that they can be exposed, as in this case, to form the internal finish of the house. This necessitates a high level of co-ordination between architecture, structure and services, so the position of every junction between the timber panels was carefully planned and detailed. The cross-laminated timber was supplied by KLH and manufactured in Austria. The entire superstructure was erected in a day within the retained walls of a former car body workshop.
