Centrally located, the Delta Hotel is a 46-storey luxury hotel and conference centre in downtown Toronto’s Southcore Financial District. Adjacent to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the 4-storey hotel contains 567 luxury suites, with public facilities including the hotel’s conference rooms and Grand Hall for large and formal event functions, and proximity to an extensive network of nearby visitor amenities.
As the building envelope consultant, Entuitive designed the technical details of stone cladding, windows, and roofing, and developed key performance metrics to measure efficiency of the tower window system, including selection of a unique and economical window system. Recommendations were made in the construction phase to optimize cladding design and minimize delays and unnecessary costs.
Challenge: With sloped glazing running up the east/west sides of the tower, water management was a major challenge. At the same time, stringent architectural design goals had to be preserved to maintain the building character without bulky components.
Solution: During the design process the cladding manufacturer was engaged early to enable timely production of detailed drawings that demonstrated the design intent. Laboratory testing was conducted to prove system performance under simulated rain storm events and during the shop drawing stage Entuitive flagged areas of concern for high potential of water ingress. We identified key risks and kept these issues at the forefront of discussion until the optimal solution was developed and implemented.
