200 West Street in New York City is a 43-storey commercial building which serves as the international headquarters for a Goldman Sachs, a major international financial institution. The project was the second structure completed in the reconstruction in the vicinity of the World Trade Center in the Financial District of downtown New York.
The building occupies two city blocks and includes 10 trading floors, a 350-seat auditorium, a Sky Lobby overlooking the Hudson River, views of the Statue of Liberty from the Executive floors, and can accommodate 11,000 office workers. It is a LEED Gold certified building and includes an underfloor air distribution system. The completion of the building has been a major catalyst for the rejuvenation of Downtown Manhattan adding a canopied pedestrian retail corridor and daycare facilities to support the local community and building employees.
Challenge: In the shadow of the World Trade Center complex, the building had to meet strict criteria for multiple varieties of potential blast threats.
Solution: Entuitive designed a robust structure that could stand up to basement, grade level, and airborne threats, while acknowledging and addressing the significant operational requirements of a major financial institution in the design of the building.
