Building Envelope Consulting and Testing & Inspection
Joseph Brant Memorial hospital is located by the waterfront in Burlington, Ontario, and serves 250,000 residents within the regions of Halton and Hamilton. In 2011, the Ontario government announced approval of an extensive redevelopment project for the hospital to be completed in two phases, including a new family health centre and patient tower.
Phase 1 of the redevelopment project included construction of a new administration building and parking garage to the south side of the current hospital site. The project, a partnership with McMaster University, houses the new Halton McMaster Family Health Centre and administrative offices. It is also connected to an adjacent parking structure, with a capacity of approximately 850 vehicles.
Entuitive provided Building Envelope consulting services related to the inspection and testing of all cladding, waterproofing and roofing components.
Challenge: In order to achieve stringent performance requirements identified in the project design, a performance testing program was required for all critical envelope systems. This included evaluation of custom curtain wall and roofing systems to ensure established performance design criteria were met. Given the challenging construction schedule, the testing was required to be completed with efficient, time-sensitive strategies.
Solution: Through involvement in the design and construction phases, Entuitive monitored both fabrication and on-site installation of all envelope components in order to ensure compliance with performance criteria. To maintain construction scheduling, Entuitive will facilitate and oversee phased performance testing of installed systems.
