The activity building at Kilburn Grange Park Children’s Centre replaced a dingy, steel container building in one corner of the park and forms the focal point for a new series of outdoor adventure play spaces. The building provides a large, multi-use area, and its form and texture encourage play for supervised activities, free from the influence of parents and guardians. In addition, there are toilets, a kitchen, and a secure staff office. The scheme is a prototype for a further twenty playgrounds across London and, since opening in May 2010, has been enormously popular with local children.
