Nine-storey parking structure, 2,500 parking spots

Portion of $400 M construction of Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort complex
The Niagara Fallsview Casino Parking Structure is a nine-storey parking structure constructed as part of the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort. The parking structure was a combination of cast-in place concrete, post-tensioned concrete slabs and beams, and concrete slab on grade, and included various traffic topping and waterproofing protection systems. The new structure accommodates 2,500 cars.
The Niagara Fallsview Casino Parking Garage also included a Pedestrian Bridge over Fallsview Avenue connecting the parking and Casino to the Hilton Hotel, and was constructed adjacent to a bus loop for local transit access to the Casino.
Challenge: To design structural elements to support the architectural ambitions of the building: exposed structure, airy spaces, and sweeping views of the Canadian and American Falls.
Solution: The building features exposed structural steel members throughout, to complement the resort’s architectural style. For example, long-span steel trusses used for the casino gaming floor reduce the number of columns necessary to support an elaborate suspended steel structure. Additional solutions include an offset, vertically post-tensioned elevator core that maximizes views to the Falls and counteracts eccentricity of the structure, and a parking structure that incorporates a unique system of thin post-tensioned slabs and beams.
