La Maison Simons
Building Envelope and Structural Engineering Consultant
Simons is a Canadian retailer that has been in operation for 175 years. The new Simon’s department store will be a fashion anchor for the CORE shopping centre in downton Calgary, occupying 92,000 ft2 of space in both the TD Square and Lancaster Building.
The bright and fresh interior aesthetic will breathe new life into one of Calgary’s oldest buildings. While the design approach has been contemporary, attention has been given to highlight the beauty of the 1919 building’s façade.
As part of the new tenant fit-out, the design calls for a new structural glass fin wall at the ground floor of the Landcaster Building and TD Square, a new canopy at TD Square and new windows on the second, third and fourth floors of the Lancaster Building.
Entuitive provided building envelope and glass engineering services to the design team through design, tender and construction. This included design assistance and pre-engineering of the specialty glazing systems to ensure constructability and functionality, which also helped to get refined pricing. Entuitive also provided general consulting to ensure tie-in details are executed with the existing terracotta cladding and curtain wall systems on TD Square.
