The South Station development is a mixed-use development that will be an example of transit-oriented design as it will be built atop Boston’s historic South Station Transportation complex.
The South Station tower is the first of a three-phase private development which, in addition to the 49-storey, 980,000 ft2 new office tower, will include a 155-unit residential condominium building, a 19-storey, 500,000 ft2 office building, and parking for approximately 713 cars. Important considerations in the master plan are the preservation of the historic South Station train station building; the linkage of the existing train station and bus terminal; and the ability to facilitate future pedestrian access to the waterfront. The new tower features an illuminated crown which will become a prominent feature on the Boston skyline. The design has already won the Boston Green Business Award 2008 and is LEED pre-certified Silver.
