Structural Engineering Consultant
Featuring an iconic, arched bridge spanning Davis Drive in Newmarket, Southlake Regional Health Centre (formerly York County Hospital) is a full-service, acute care hospital with a regional focus. Through its association with a number of local universities, the hospital has become an acclaimed teaching facility and research centre.
The project involved a multi-storey infill addition to the existing hospital, and includes beds for critical care, acute care and expanded obstetrical and pediatric units. The scope of structural work also included a significant renovation component supporting departments such as regional cardiac, emergency, maternal child and ambulatory care.
Challenge: Difficult subsurface conditions, high water table, significant differences in bearing conditions.
Solution: Use of raft foundation system to distribute loads more evenly across softer bearing materials.
