Evolving the Fire Design Process Through BIM
In the latest edition of the CanBIM Innovation Spotlight magazine, Entuitive’s Matt Smith tackles the topic of the Performance-Based Fire Design (PBFD) and the role of BIM in the building design process.
“In current Canadian practice, fire safety of a building is mainly prescriptive, which is not necessarily the only approach. There is an opportunity to treat fire as a load scenario to be designed for through PBFD, like other low-probability, high-consequence hazards. PBFD has been used internationally and provides architectural freedom, optimization of material and erection costs, and improved resilience for fire hazards.”
