A Transparent Approach to Existing Buildings with Al Sosin
Al Sosin recently joined the team as an Associate in our Vancouver office. His primary focus is on existing buildings and we sat down with him to discuss his approach to his work.
Hey, Al, thanks for sitting down with us today and welcome to Entuitive. Why did you choose to start the next chapter in your career here?
Entuitive is a very innovative, fast-paced and collaborative company. It operates almost like a start-up, which is exciting.
I also like that Entuitive covers many markets and sectors and that it doesn’t specialize in just one area. This means we can provide support on many different areas of a project. People from across the company with different skillsets can work together on one project and provide expertise to solve any problem.
What’s your approach to your job?
“Under promise, over deliver” is the moral I try to follow in my career and it’s served me well throughout the years.
It’s very easy to over promise in the beginning to win the project, but it comes off as a short-term strategy that won’t lend well to long-term growth.
In my experience, you can burn a bridge only once and I do my best to avoid burning bridges.
As your career evolved, were there any lessons you picked up along the way?
The lesson that I learned is that communication is key. It’s important to ask as many questions as possible to develop an understanding of the client and their needs.
Setting expectations with clients, with teams, service providers, contractors, with anyone, really. Being clear on what everyone is supposed to do and also the “when” and the “how” makes everything so much easier.
It’s also important to know that mistakes are going to happen, but the most important thing is when mistakes are happening, how are they being dealt with?
Whether the mistake is on our side or not, it’s all about owning up and taking responsibility, then working toward solving the problem.
What are you looking forward to the most at Entuitive?
I’m excited for growing the company, growing the Vancouver office and collaborating with the other offices to help them grow as well.
I’m also looking forward to meeting more of my colleagues across the company and working with them, hopefully in person.
Thanks, Al! It’s been great getting to know you a little better. Welcome to, Entuitive!
