Embracing our Sustainable Future

Earlier this year, Entuitive restructured its Sustainable Performance Group across its offices and service offering. By assigning our talented team of green building experts (including, but not limited to, building performance, energy modelling, zero-carbon buildings, and carbon reduction) to three newly named key teams, our sustainability services are more easily communicated and deployed.
Sam Lane, Sustainable Performance Discipline Lead at Entuitive, explains how this new structure is primed to serve our clients and future sustainability mandates amidst changing legislation, a growing emphasis on building performance standards, and as greater comprehension of embodied carbon becomes crucial amongst builders and the public alike.
The Need for Change
A common question we get is “How does sustainability fit into your firm?”
Entuitive’s reputation within structural engineering and building envelope circles is well-established (likewise for our other key offerings like Construction Engineering, Bridge Design, Pedestrian Modelling, Fire Engineering, and Restoration, to name a few.) But sustainability isn’t a new offering for Entuitive. We have been designing for the future since our conception and we have established ourselves as a steward of sustainable design. Sustainability has grown organically at our firm – always as a response to the questions of “How can we do better? Where can we lead? Where is the right place to play?”
Our other services position us perfectly to tackle some of the industry’s toughest challenges. Decarbonization, the race to net zero, building conversions, deep energy retrofits, and embodied carbon targets are re-defining the industry and Entuitive is committed to putting our technical abilities behind these critical challenges. We know sustainability is fundamental to our business and have organized our Sustainable Performance Group to better serve it.
Introducing the Sustainable Performance Teams: APA, SB+, Carbon Team
More recently, the definition of what sustainability means to the building industry is far-reaching and penetrates all levels of project planning and execution, with a more robust list of specializations including:
- Whole-building Lifecycle Assessment
- Net-Zero Energy and Carbon Design
- Renewable Energy Feasibility
- WELL Certification & Design for Wellbeing
- Passive House
- Environmental Policy & Regulatory Policy
- Deep Energy Retrofits
- Climate Risk & Resiliency Assessment
- Lifecycle Costing Analysis
- Thermal Comfort & Daylight Modelling
- LEED, Green Globes, BOMA BEST
And just as sustainability has exploded in the building industry, Entuitive has grown its expertise to offer all of the above specializations and more. As such, it was time we restructured our Sustainable Performance Group to be represented by three key teams:
Whether through certifications or sourcing sustainable materials, designing high-performance or zero-carbon buildings, Entuitive’s Sustainable Performance Group is now best positioned to impact every project from the outset.
By educating our teams, their clients, and our industry partners on sustainable building practices, we remain part of the most important conversation taking place now: our sustainable future.
