Threshold

London, UK
This structure was designed as a temporary canopy installed over the entrance steps to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It comprised 208, 1-metre long traffic cones, made especially in white plastic. Each cone weighed about 9 kilograms, meaning there were almost 2 tonnes of cones suspended from a cable net, which itself was fixed at each corner to a slender steel frame.

Layered Gallery

London, UK
This private art gallery in Fitzrovia was conceived by the architect as an addition to the garden landscape, providing a space for the display of the client's collection as well as a hidden washroom, a balcony space overlooking the garden, and an outdoor kitchen. In the gallery, the geometric structure of the layered façade is reflected in the semi-transparent steel-mesh panels on which works are displayed, which slide along ceiling tracks to reveal multiple layers of display space. The new space is accessed through a Grade II listed house.

Kensington Newspaper Kiosks

London, UK
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London commissioned four new newspaper kiosks for the streets of the borough. The stepped form of each kiosk is derived from the internal shelving requirements for magazines and newspapers. The entire front of the kiosk, which is also known as the Paperhouse, can be opened by rotating the two doors around to the sides.

Emergence

Heathrow Airport, UK
This 13-metre-high centrepiece sculpture for the departures lounge at Heathrow’s new Terminal 2 was engineered in collaboration with designers Cinimod Studio. It features 350,000 individually controlled LED lights arranged on 150 two-metre-long arcs suspended from a central mast. The LED lighting patterns are controlled in real time from a mesmerising live physics simulation modelled on the complex movements of a school of fish in the ocean, a phenomenon known as emergence.

Bleigiessen

London, UK
The name of this sculpture derives from the method in which its form was created. Molten lead dropped in to cold water freezes instantaneously and the 5cm long frozen piece of lead was then scaled up to a 27m high sculpture suspended in the eight-storey atrium of the Welcome Trust headquarters in London.
