Challenge
To develop an appropriate structural framing system that meets key project goals for the building, including addressing floor stiffness and vibration, accommodation for future lab space, and delivery according to an aggressive construction schedule.
Solution
A filigree floor system was chosen for its inherent fire proofing, its relatively shallow floor depth, inherent robustness against vibration, and speed of erection, given its lack of concrete formwork. To address the need for future lab spaces, special provisions were made to the floor design to accommodate sleeving and openings.
