At Entuitive, we strive to bring our team career development opportunities that are empowering and encourage their growth. One of these opportunities is internal mobility, which gives our team members the chance to relocate to another one of our six offices across Canada and in New York City. Whether short-term or long-term, these mobility assignments are great experiences to help grow your career, meet new people, and see new places.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Greer Stanier, Building Envelope Specialist, who relocated from Toronto to Vancouver, to discuss her mobility story.
Thanks for chatting with us, Greer! Can you tell us about your role and when you first joined Entuitive?
I joined Entuitive in 2022 as a building envelope specialist, which is a newer engineering discipline. Everything in a building that separates the inside from the outside is considered the envelope, so things like opaque walls, windows, and the roof. That’s also where a lot, if not all, environmental damage happens. Typically, there are many issues with water ingress, condensation, and heat loss. You would engage a building envelope specialist when designing a building with a certain energy-use intensity, or a high degree of quality control to prevent building deterioration or assembly failure.
My role involves everything from working with architects in the design phase to advise whether their buildings comply with local energy codes or Passive House targets, to R&D work for different manufacturers for whom we design envelopes. BE also involves contract administration, which means we visit building sites to verify that the building meets the design specs.

What made you decide to move to Vancouver?
I wanted to move to Vancouver for two reasons. First, I wanted to attain my P.Eng. designation. I have an undergraduate degree in architecture and a masters in engineering. With this combination of degrees, BC was more conducive to that goal. Second, I really wanted to move after COVID, since travel was so restricted then.
How was the transition from Toronto to Vancouver?
The main difference for my work has been adjusting to the different regulations in BC. I’ve learned a lot in terms of the different views each province takes regarding building codes and quality control. For example, Ontario has the Ontario Building Code and Toronto has the Toronto Green Standard. In BC we have the BC Building Code and there are also more specific codes that apply to each city. It has been a great opportunity to diversify my skills set.
Are there any cool projects you’re working on that you can tell us about?
I’ve been working on more restoration projects than I did in Toronto. I really like restoration. I also have a new build project in Whitehorse that I’m excited about.
I am working on several community projects, such as an affordable housing project that is targeting Passive House accreditation, which is one of the most demanding, voluntary, energy-based certifications a building can achieve in Canada. These are really rewarding because they’re livable, they’re affordable, and they’re really, really aggressive on energy targets – and I love those projects.
What do you see for your future at Entuitive?
I’m really interested in innovation. We do a lot of repeat work and we’re currently developing ways to automate certain tasks. I’m always interested in making things more efficient.
