Career Development at Entuitive: Stephen Cohos' Mobility Story

ree

Empowering our people to grow and explore new opportunities is central to how we work. Through internal mobility, team members can take on new challenges and relocate across our offices in Canada, broadening their perspectives, building meaningful connections, and advancing their careers. We recently spoke with Stephen Cohos about his journey relocating from Calgary to Vancouver and his evolving career at Entuitive.

Thanks so much for chatting with us, Stephen. Can you start by sharing how your journey with Entuitive began?

I began my journey with Entuitive in 2014 as a co-op student in the Calgary office, supporting the Special Projects and Building Envelope groups as a designer and drafter. After returning to BC to complete my studies, I rejoined the firm full-time in 2017 with the Special Projects group. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to help establish the Project Coordinator group, contribute to the Transportation team on the 100th St. Bridge in Edmonton and the Bertram Street Pedestrian Overpass in Kelowna, and take on a mix of project management, workflow process implementation, and transportation work.

What made you decide to move to Vancouver?

I wanted to move to Vancouver for two reasons. First, I wanted to attain my P.Eng. designation. I have an undergraduate degree in architecture and a masters in engineering. With this combination of degrees, BC was more conducive to that goal. Second, I really wanted to move after COVID, since travel was so restricted then.

How was the transition from Toronto to Vancouver?

The main difference for my work has been adjusting to the different regulations in BC. I’ve learned a lot in terms of the different views each province takes regarding building codes and quality control. For example, Ontario has the Ontario Building Code and Toronto has the Toronto Green Standard. In BC we have the BC Building Code and there are also more specific codes that apply to each city. It has been a great opportunity to diversify my skills set.

Are there any cool projects you’re working on that you can tell us about?

I’ve been working on more restoration projects than I did in Toronto. I really like restoration. I also have a new build project in Whitehorse that I’m excited about.

I am working on several community projects, such as an affordable housing project that is targeting Passive House accreditation, which is one of the most demanding, voluntary, energy-based certifications a building can achieve in Canada. These are really rewarding because they’re livable, they’re affordable, and they’re really, really aggressive on energy targets – and I love those projects.

What do you see for your future at Entuitive?

I’m really interested in innovation. We do a lot of repeat work and we’re currently developing ways to automate certain tasks. I’m always interested in making things more efficient.

Thank you so much for chatting with us, Stephen! We’re excited to see how your leadership continues to shape Entuitive's growth in Vancouver. If you would like to connect with Stephen, please reach out here.
