Entuitive Internship Diaries: Josie Johnson

ree

At Entuitive, we believe meaningful work experience helps shape tomorrow’s leaders in Sustainability. Josie Johnson, a Bio-Resource Management student at the University of Guelph, spent her work term with our Sustainable Performance team.

From preparing LEED scorecards to developing a tracking matrix for the upcoming LEED v5 system, Josie gained valuable hands-on experience in the green building industry. She also embraced Entuitive’s collaborative culture, connecting with colleagues across the country and at social events. Going into my third year at the University of Guelph, I am working towards a Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management, majoring in Environmental Management and Business. Sustainability has always been a strong passion of mine, and my academic focus in this area has led me to explore career opportunities within the sustainability sector. The goals and values of Entuitive immediately stood out to me, especially the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Prior to this work term, I had very little experience or knowledge of the green building industry. I am incredibly grateful to have built a deeper understanding of the field, particularly around LEED rating systems, over the last four months.

During my internship, I assisted in preparing LEED scorecards for various projects, most notably the P3 Schools project. I also developed a tracking matrix, which became a key focus of my work term. This involved collecting documentation for the upcoming LEED v5 system and creating an updated scorecard to incorporate the new credits.

Toward the end of my placement, I had the chance to visit a project site, which was an incredible experience. It provided valuable hands-on exposure and helped strengthen my technical skills. During the visit, I saw the construction of the curtain wall in the main lobby and learned about the installation of the green roof on the top floors.

The work culture at Entuitive is nothing short of wonderful. Throughout my term, I met many outstanding individuals. Whether it was chatting in the kitchen over coffee or attending the Diversity Potluck or annual Summer Social, everyone was welcoming and supportive.

My biggest piece of advice for anyone starting a new work term is to get as involved as possible. Team lunches, social events, and book club gave me the chance to connect with people beyond my immediate team and feel like part of the larger Entuitive community. Being open to learning and meeting new people truly made the experience more rewarding.

Working with the Sustainability + Performance team, which is spread across the country, also helped me improve my communication skills. I learned that while asking questions is important, asking the right questions is just as critical to finding the information you need.

Lastly, I would like to thank the Sustainability + Performance team for their unwavering support. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to new projects, strengthen my skills, and grow as a professional.
