Entuitive is featured in Common Good, a film series, presented by B Lab Global and produced by BBC StoryWorks. The international series of documentary shorts showcases Certified B Corps™ that are redefining what it means to use business as a force for good by putting people and the planet first.
The film features Biren Singh, a Senior Building Performance Analyst at Entuitive, as he shares his work on sustainable design, energy retrofits, and the importance of creating healthier, more comfortable buildings for the people who live in them.
Retrofitting for Real-World Impact
The film highlights two retrofit projects in the Greater Toronto Area: Ken Soble Tower and St. Hildas Senior Community. Both were completed in collaboration with ERA Architects and reflect Entuitive’s commitment to sustainability, carbon reduction, and social impact, particularly within senior living communities.
“These are both projects that we’re really proud of at Entuitive,” remarks Singh in the film. “They represent the kind of projects we want to work on because they are retrofits of senior living facilities, and you actually get to have a tangible effect on people’s lives.”
By preserving structural elements and upgrading building systems, these retrofits drastically improve building performance while minimizing material waste and embodied carbon. Singh explains that the benefits go beyond energy savings.
A Closer Look at Two Transformative Retrofits
Ken Soble Tower

Located in Hamilton, Ontario, Ken Soble Tower is an 18-storey building originally constructed in the 1960s. As the city explored revitalization options, Entuitive and ERA Architects collaborated on a comprehensive building envelope upgrade, including the roof, windows, walls, and more. This refurbishment was completed at a fraction of the cost of new construction, significantly improving the building’s energy efficiency.
The building features a highly airtight envelope, greatly reducing heat loss in the winter and cooling loss in the summer, helping it maintain comfortable indoor temperatures year-round. It also underwent a complete mechanical overhaul, replacing all gas systems with energy-efficient heat pumps.
Designed to achieve a nearly 94% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, Ken Soble Tower is the largest Passive House-certified project in North America. St. Hildas Senior Community

Also completed in collaboration with ERA Architects, St. Hildas is a not-for-profit senior residence in Toronto that provides affordable housing and care to seniors. The community consists of three existing towers, and the retrofit focused on preserving and revitalizing the existing structure rather than demolishing it. Upgrades to the facility included the replacement of all windows and structural restoration of the podium and underground parking structure.
In the film, Singh highlights the advantages of retrofitting over new construction: “I think the biggest strength is that when you’re retrofitting the building, you’re keeping the superstructure. […] You’re saving so much material, and that’s really helping with just the embodied carbon of the space.”
He continues, “When you tell someone that you can reduce their carbon emissions by 90%, it just sounds like a made-up number but it’s possible.”
Denroy Davis, a St. Hildas resident, shared how much the improvements have impacted his daily life in the film.

“Since the retrofit, I haven’t turned on my heat,” said Davis. “It keeps the environment inside very moderate. And for my plants…that’s why they grow so well.”
Using Business as a Force for Good
As a Certified B Corporation, Entuitive is part of a growing movement of organizations using business as a force for good. This means leading not only through sustainable performance and carbon action, but also through a commitment to people and communities.
Singh spoke about the importance of creating spaces that people want to return to. “If you feel safe and comfortable in a space and you want to come back to it, that’s what makes a home.”

With one of the highest B Impact Assessment scores in its sector and region, Entuitive is setting a strong example for what is possible in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.
