KEY CONSIDERATIONS

Challenge One

At the building parapet, the curtain wall sails past the roof line to give the appearance of an all glass building, however the roof waterproofing membrane must be incorporated into this detail without being visible from the exterior.

Solution One

A customized curtain wall frame was designed with hidden joints in the curtain wall system to receive the waterproofing membrane and allow for proper drainage and weeping of any rain water. Thermal modelling was performed to verify that sufficient insulation was provided to key areas of the concealed joint.

Challenge Two

The inward concavity of the north façade focuses reflection from the glazed curtain wall, leading to increased heat gain to the surrounding environment, predominantly impacting motorists and pedestrians.

Solution Two

The use of vertical fins were a positive design feature and aided in reducing the frequency and intensity of some glancing reflections.
