CALGARY, AB
Calgary Stampede Sam Centre
Located within Stampede Park in Calgary.
Sam Centre is a heritage museum at the heart of the Calgary Stampede's broader mission to preserve and promote western culture, values, and traditions.
Entuitive provided building envelope and structural engineering services, working closely with the architectural team to bring this ambitious vision to life. Our role was critical in delivering a high-performance building envelope and a hybrid wood-steel structural system. One of the project's key engineering challenges was maintaining continuity of the air and vapour barriers. This challenge was solved through innovative detailing, collaboration, and on-site problem-solving.
Originally conceived as part of the Calgary Stampede Youth Campus, the Sam Centre now stands as a landmark facility offering a modern, immersive experience that honours the rich history and spirit of the Stampede.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS
Challenge One
Six projects needed to be delivered around a single plaza to complete the new Calgary Stampede Sam Centre.
Solution One
Close-knit coordination among different project teams were required to keep all design elements working in sync with one another. A central hub connected the projects into a single source of truth and helped to manage all the moving parts.
Challenge Two
Utilize materials that fulfill an aesthetic vision that’s inspired by original, century-old barn structures previously occupying the land, while supporting long cantilever beams overheads.
Solution Two
Wood materials were required to mimic the original aesthetic of the barns. The use of glulam beams and columns enabled long spans throughout design features large gathering spaces while aligning with the expected aesthetic.
