Modelled after traditional European football academies, the Toronto FC Training Centre provides facilities for both the city’s professional soccer team and the general public.

Located in Downsview Park in north Toronto, the centre is part of a larger master plan for the site, with a variety of residential and community facilities programming.

A 40,000 ft² building includes offices, change rooms, fitness spaces, and a sports medicine area.

The key features of the project include four natural and artificial fields, with the latter enclosed in winter with an air-supported fabric structure.

LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW ENTUITIVE APPROACHES ENGINEERING CHALLENGES, AND DISCOVER WHY ENGINEERING PERFORMANCE MATTERS FOR YOUR PROJECT.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS

Challenge One

A window of only nine months was available for design and construction, with an equally tight budget.

Solution One

Our team engineered an exposed structure that would be architecturally expressive, from the precast concrete floors up to the combination of structural steel and glulam roof structures.

The use of load-bearing masonry throughout the ground floor and portions of the second floor contributed to the cost efficiency and speed of construction for the project.
