Constructed circa 1980, Westmount Place Condominium is a 28-storey, mixed-use building located in downtown Calgary.
The building has a four-level underground parkade. Both the tower and parkade are reinforced using an unbonded post-tensioned system.
Entuitive's scope involved typical restoration practices for concrete and traffic deck coating deterioration, as well as analysis of the post-tension system to determine replacement strands stressing amounts and estimated elongation.
Heavy moisture seepage was noted throughout the foundation walls of the parkade, resulting in extensive corrosion and loss of strand tension in the post-tensioning system.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS
Challenge One
Parkade maintenance and post-tension system repairs are typically completed in tandem. As the parkade was occupied and used during construction, understanding the potential safety impacts to construction workers and tenants when dealing with post-tensioned structures was critical.
Solution One
Entuitive worked closely with the condominium board and contractor to identify potential failure paths of post-tension strands being worked on and ensured areas effected were adequately cordoned off, eliminating safety concerns during the restoration process.
