BANFF, AB

Wintergardens (The Aster) 338-342 Banff Avenue

Affordable housing is a key issue for the Town of Banff, and the homes at Wintergardens are intended to meet the growing demand for affordable homes in the community.

The site, owned by the Banff Housing Corporation, will be home to a new multi-unit residential building that will provide high-density and price-restricted units for purchase.

When complete, the development will be a three-storey building with an attic loft, with one level of below-grade parking, and will feature exterior circulation.

Early-stage parametric energy modelling was employed to determine the best value approach to building envelope system design to achieve project energy targets. The resulting design is anticipated to exceed the minimums set by the Town of Banff with the final design forecast to achieve 20% energy savings and LEED Gold certification.

The project will maximize dwelling unit yield and balance capital, operational, and lifecycle costs, while providing livable spaces that foster a sense of community and environmental stewardship. The project is targeted to achieve 10% better energy performance than required by NECB 2017.

Entuitive was retained to provide structural, building envelope, and energy performance services.
